The real disadvantage is that such devices solve a few current problems in their new form. They actually solve only one problem: they make it easier to carry a 17-inch laptop than ever before. Seems like a pretty small problem to me, and one that requires you to accept many other compromises to solve. I think a totally different device is successful in the market when it solves several problems of the current ones, not just one.
